Why Shoot Portrait Photography in Irvine, California?
Irvine California is a city situated within Orange County, California and while the city has much of the oceanfront charm that the rest of the county is known for, it has plenty of other sights to check out as well. To me, Irvine is one of the most polished locations in Orange County thanks to its heavy retail presence—that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Irvine is full of culture and with that, plenty of things to capture on film. Whether you’re looking for a portrait that takes you up into the clouds (we’ll get to that later) or would rather stay grounded Irvine will have something to offer you.
What You Can Wear for Portraits in Irvine, California?
Irvine, California is what I would consider to be a classy part of Orange County. It’s full of luxury shopping, be it boutique or chain and most of its residents are living in multi-million dollar homes. Does that mean, as a model, you need to “dress to impress?” Not really—while an expensive wardrobe would certainly fit it, there’s plenty of room to dress down.
In fact, sometimes contrasting with the local color can really give your headshotsome personality. However you want to dress, feel free to contact me first and we can discuss a wardrobe plan. I think it’s most important that you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Best Spots Near Irvine, California for Portrait Photography
Irvine is one of those quintessential Californian towns around Orange County that holds plenty of upscale charm. However, there are ways to turn that charm up or down depending on what exactly you’re looking for. If you want lavish luxury there’s a place for that, if you want the ocean there’s a place for that, too, if you want anything else then, well, there’s probably also a place for that.
Great Park Balloon
Hover 400 feet above the ground on the Great Park Balloon, which is a hot air balloon permanently anchored to the floor. Enjoy a 360 panoramic view of the world around you while also taking some rather lofty portraits at the same time. Most of all, take the pre-planning and much of the expense out of hiring a private hot air balloon ride.
The Balboa Island Ferry Sign
The Balboa Island Ferry is a longtime staple near Irvine, California. The harbor it docks on is full of vintage maritime charm. The striking red, white, and blue can cast a vivid backdrop for your portrait and the old-school signage can transport you to the past.
Crystal Cove Tunnel
The Crystal Cove Tunnel is a startling run-off pipe situated in Crystal Cove State Park. The tunnel is relatively short but elegantly arched. Best of all, it’s far end leads directly to the ocean. I like to bring clients to the tunnel for a creative portrait that features a unique juxtaposition of space, shape, and contrast from the tunnel. Depending on the exposure, we can change the dynamic of the tunnel completely. It’s a fun experience that always gives me great results.
The Wedge
Locally known as “the wedge”, this spot is the go-to location for surfing due to the spectacular and huge waves that crash right on the shore. The area is full of “beach cottages” that cost upwards of 3 million dollars! I love heading to the wedge for beach shoots because I know that we can capture some killer waves in the background.
Why Choose Me as Your Irvine Photographer
I know Irvine well and I understand how to get the results you want out of your headshot. If you’re looking for something beachy yet elegant, then the wedge is a great spot. If you’re going for something more epic in nature, then let’s hop onto that balloon!
Whatever you want, I have the equipment and experience needed to make it happen. Irvine is just a backdrop. And while it has a life and color unique to itself, I’ve yet to be on a shoot that failed to produce something interesting, no matter the location. Irvine is no different—I like to let it work for me and, when we’re on location, we’ll allow that local color to inform our portrait photography.
